What Would Jackie Do?

Photobucket

I found this little gem at my local library today, and I'm really enjoying it. It has fun (though sometimes obvious) suggestions for how one might go about living a truly gracious, Jackie-esque existence. The best part about it is all of the little the short, little-known stories and examples from Jackie's personal life.

For instance,
did you know that when her friend Andy Warhol brought an uninvited guest (a writer, no less) to one of her parties, she was polite about it at the time, but secretly furious at the invasion, and told her other friends not to invite him to anything anymore? Yikes. Not a big fan of the whole party-crasher thing. (OR writers, for that matter, but honestly, can you blame her on that one?).

Did you know that she was an avid letter/thank you note writer? She was. She had beautiful stationary that was icy blue with white embossing... but, ever the economist, she would also write to friends on hotel letterhead, DoubleDay letterhead, random post cards collected from her many travels, and any old scrap of paper she found handy in a bind. She also wrote in big, loopy letters, and wrote on the front, back, and up the sides of the cards. (This eased my recent anxiety about sending perfect thank you cards to all of the beautiful friends in my life who so thoughtfully sent gifts to celebrate Tennyson's arrival. If Jackie's notes were perfectly imperfect, then mine can be too!)

So anyway, it's a quick, fun read and I am enjoying it. I thought you might like to know.

It should also be made known that I read the first 10 or so pages of this book while standing barefoot in my kitchen wearing ripped jeans and eating messily chopped off chunks of smoked gouda while simultaneously roasting a marshmallow over my electric stove top with a dinner fork. (Who needs a campfire?)

Jackie isn't the only one around here who knows how to keep it classy...
