Tuesday 1.20.2009

This hasn't happened in a very long time, but I may actually be forced to take a blogging break. Ahhhhh! The horror! What will I even do with myself?
...Oh, yeah, I'll probably shop, eat at yummy restaurants, stay up way too late, and watch a lot lot lot of Miss America! I'm going to Las Vegas for the week to watch the Miss America Preliminary Competitions, and I don't know if Internet service will be available. Scratch that, I know that it will be available, however, I suspect that my hotel will try to charge me $50.00 per 2 hour block or something outrageous like that...so, due to the fact that I am cheap, cheap, cheap, I will likely be abstaining altogether! So, I bid you all a fond farewell and hope you have a great week! I'd like to leave you with some of my personal thoughts on this morning's presidential inauguration:

Michelle Obama's Outfit: Far too much hype leading up to it, but I thought she looked absolutely lovely. Loved the color.
The Obama Children: Darling beyond words. My inner 8 year old seethed with jealousy as I watched them ascend the large staircase in those darling (and probably very costly) outfits. They have a very interesting several years ahead of them.
The opening prayer: Terrifying, not heartfelt, over the top...I could go on and on, but will sum it up with "Ew."
The Song: I love the song "My Country Tis of Thee." It's my favorite patriotic song of all time. Aretha was a bit over the top (isn't she always) and her hat made the statement "over the top" look more like "somewhere in the middle" but I love Aretha, and I enjoyed her crazy, heartfelt performance.
President Obama's Speech: Amazing. I'm all pumped up and stuff. I am excited to be an American, and am hereby committing to do my part to build the economy and promote hope (instead of fear and negativity) for our nation's future.
The Closing Prayer: Better. Still Weird. Didn't love the (rather funny) poem at the end that basically said black people rise up, brown people rise up, Asians be nicer, Indians come forth and claim what is yours, and white people - stop being jerks (I think it said for us to be kind, but doesn't telling someone to be kind imply that they are being jerks that NEED to be told to be kind? That's what I thought)...but it was still funny. You can get away with a lot just by being funny.

In Conlcusion: I don't agree with Obama on everything. For example, I will never be a fan of killing babies...just not ever gonna happen. But I have deep respect for who him as our new President and I will support him as such. I am very optimistic about our future, and Obama's new and different way of doing things really might bring about all this "change" that everybody has been buzzing about. I hope it does... And, worry not, if it doesn't, we can all criticize and pick apart Obama's every move and say "I would have done it better" and "he's a bloomin' idiot" and such and make ourselves feel all sorts of superior. That sounds like a win/win to me!

Ha ha!
Love ya all!
Have a great week!

Ha ha! I don't know why, but I've always liked the expression "blooming idiot". It's so cheery! I'm going to laugh at that for a minute, then move on to being hopeful. Okay, I'm not as optimistic, but I'm not calling for the end of the world either. I'm officially a fence sitter until I see what he actually does while in office. I DO hope Pres. Obama is all everyone else hopes him to be. The other option is less fun. Definitely don't agree with FOCA or the way he's started out spending. I realize it's a celebration, but 150 million? Not to mention that HUGE stimulus package... Anyway...

Totally agree about the prayers. Funny stuff!

Their kids are so, so adorable and I did like the color of Michelle's dress!

The best part for me was just seeing history in the making. How cool that we got to be here at this time in history!
